Your Old Devices are Creating New Opportunities

Each donated device directly supports our mission to empower neurodiverse adults in tech repair and workforce development. Old phones, laptops, and tablets become vital training tools, equipping WISE-certified technicians with hands-on experience and real-world skills. Plus, proceeds from refurbishing or recycling these devices help fund housing and career initiatives, ensuring adults with autism can thrive on their own terms. Every device donated is a step toward changing lives and building a more inclusive future.

Unlocking your Chromebook

To erase a Chromebook before selling it, you need to perform a factory reset, also called a “Powerwash,” which will wipe all your data, settings, and accounts by going to your Chromebook settings, selecting “Advanced” then “Reset settings,” and choosing “Powerwash” to initiate the reset process; you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Shift + r to access the reset option.

Key steps to erase your Chromebook before selling:
  • Sign out of your Google account: Make sure you are logged out of your primary Google account on the Chromebook.

  • Access settings: Open your Chromebook settings.

  • Navigate to reset options: Go to “Advanced” settings and then select “Reset settings”.

  • Initiate Powerwash: Choose “Powerwash” and confirm the reset.

  • Follow on-screen instructions: Your Chromebook will restart and guide you through the reset process.

Important points to remember:
  • Backup important data:
Since a factory reset deletes everything locally, make sure to back up any important files to Google Drive or an external storage device before proceeding.

Why do devices need to be unlocked?

Unlocking your device ensures that all personal data can be securely wiped, allowing us to refurbish or recycle it effectively. This step gives your donation the greatest impact by making it ready for training or resale, ultimately supporting Techtonic’s mission and empowering neurodiverse adults.
